What is real, and does it really matter?

There are two ways I view this question, which is more relevant than you might realize. And if you don’t believe me, think of your last paper cut — you were never more aware of that finger. When it happened, did you ask yourself whether the pain is meaningful? Surely it is; not all blood clots. But outside your focus in that context, is it truly real?

Basically all the snow disappeared in the last four days of rain. But today it's back, and probably to stay for a while. It's not New Orleans level snow, but it'll do. Hopefully we see more.

On one hand, what I can see or hear must exist somewhere; even if in my mind and the perception is shared, at least it’s real to me. Yet all that changes if I choose to detach myself and consider the message behind the things I perceive. Removal from the flow causes many problems.

My treatment here is superficial, but it’s a deep question without an answer. Analogies can be plugged in or derived at will, which is why thinking about it is a waste of time. Whether I have an opinion of pain or its absence, or any thing really, the universe doesn’t care.

I try to stay aware of this, but my mind still tricks me into believing its thoughts need attention. Although I’m unsure why, I still plan even though nothing is certain.

So, I’m not just being facetious here. Consider this my personal metaphor as I continue thinking about whether thinking has any value.
