Two weeks from now we will open our combined showing at IGCA in Anchorage, which will display several new works of ours in three gallery sections. Hopefully it will be a more common occasion and we work together more often.
In these entries a few years ago I lamented many times about my wish to quit the day job so I could dedicate more time to creative work. Although the sentiment lingers, those were rather thoughtless comments. Developing the materials for this show made it apparent how I didn’t always consider the freedom my professional career offers me to think and recombine without financial stress. Sure, more time would have been useful, but those days were — and still are — long enough to work every thread.
Instead of low-key complaining, I could have focused on the value of reprioritizing how I spend time. There is plenty to go around, even with a daytime career. So, why waste any more of it by wishing life was somehow different.
