Besides parking our car in the garage, we use it to make things like portraits and videos. At first I thought doing that was hokey, as if somehow these creations were less worthy because they weren’t born in a dedicated space. First world problems, man.
But then the unintentionally compiled series of work gained a consistency that really resonated with me and my opinion changed. I thought the idea of using the space we have as a background had a particular kind of charm to it. Maybe I’d call it a vibe. Repeatedly shooting against the same wall year after year certainly constitutes an aesthetic, and mitigates any excuse we have to procrastinate with the practice.
Yet, the only reason any of this is to me a novelty lies in connection with the idea of its unique nature. But is it? How the hell do I know. I’m only aware of what we do and the methods others use are just as obscure as ours.
Ultimately it doesn’t matter. I’m simply happy nowadays about the lower resistance to creating. Surprisingly, that makes it easier to focus on the present and notice how things change.
