Okay, I said I wouldn’t yammer on about the practice of photographing, but here goes again. I lied.

There is irony in my opinion that older photographers using analog films were better than modern ones because, just like them, I use a computer to convert my images to monochrome. Yeah, the process requires creative choice, but somehow I'm more interested in negation than adding to a composition. Yet another life metaphor.

Despite my being too lazy to use an analog system — which means every photo I take with a cell phone, compact, or DSLR camera is in color — black and white is my clear preference. When it comes to indentifying my own creative choices, at least I’m aware of that.

What I don’t fully understand is why. I don’t consider that I’m good enough to use monochrome adequately as a tool, so really it shouldn’t matter to me or my work. So, I’m left contemplating the reasons and thinking about ways to make such restrictions of the tool meaningful to me.
