A few entries back I said I’m too lazy to be a good landscape photographer. While true, there is more to it. I didn’t say more because who likes talking about flaws.
The reality is that I do not value the work it takes to stand among anyone who does put effort into making more difficult-to-obtain images of the world, or of anything for that matter. I said I’m lazy, remember? Whether you find any value in a clever pseudo-abstraction of a familiar sight is not truly my concern, but I tell myself that I appreciate those viewers more who are willing to see what I see.
But I can’t lie. I follow this premise to justify my approach. Is a mildly conceptual composition of common ground accompanied by a few haughty philosophies any more valuable than rare light on a mostly unseen piece of earth? Who knows. Maybe I think so — or perhaps I’m still unconvinced of my perspective.
