Those who are committed to character in what they do achieve this character; while those who lose it are themselves lost.

Our limits are unknown because we never reach them. That you are reading this is proof.

Don’t be offended at my straightforwardness — it is a point that I only recently considered before I decided to challenge myself more:

It is often difficult to be a witness of our own evolution. Data is usually required: this year we wear about half the clothing in winter. Last year the cold was still threatening, but a daily running commitment has helped.

Given the tendency of my hands to go numb in cold weather, the snow on top of this frigid mountain is the perfect example. Before this year, we didn’t even know people climbed it year-round. Now, we do too.

Before first real winter climb I thought we made a mistake because numb hands hurt like hell when they warm. The biggest challenge was getting past the unknown and ignoring fear. Putting a priority on the goal helped.

Through the last year we’ve learned a lot about acclimation and gear, so now we are concentrating on developing trust in the experience. Besides, climbing 3000 feet is difficult and hands don’t even have a chance to get cold. I never had a problem on the trail.
