If I’m writing, I’m listening to music. It’s always been a passion of mine, especially since the dawn of MP3s, so I’ve made a lot of excuses about why my aging ears can tolerate the loudness. (Maybe you can relate?) And I don’t turn it off when I’m attempting to concentrate, I just switch to a very wide genre without words — that convenient option didn’t really exist until Apple Music and streaming became a thing.
It’s often difficult to find like-able stuff but lately when I do, it’s because I found it rifling through Apple’s library, and then searched for other related music. It sure is hard to find good sounds without words! I mean, there is plenty of electronic instrumental (or whatever it’s called nowadays), but so much of it sucks that I can barely tolerate it, especially when I’m trying to think. Yes I realize the irony. But bad music is distracting!
For the last week or so I’ve been sifting through a list of electronic music we added to our library a while back and I’m KINDA getting bored with it, so lately I tend to spend more time looking through Apple’s library than ours — a point worth mentioning because of the dependency it is causing: philosophically I have a huge problem with things like the phone, the watch, all the electronics we have, time, schedules, etc (everything, really), all because of the adaptations I have to make to use these human inventions.
I guess in the whole scheme of life it isn’t such a big deal to develop a new preference for listening to music I’m basically renting. But that concept does bug the hell out of me — and I think about it all the time. Yeah, it’s convenient, but man, we pay more money in a month for access to it than we do for bread. Isn’t that crazy?
